Worktops for your outdoor kitchen

Douglas fir worktop, 3 cm thick

The Douglas fir worktop is the natural choice: 3 cm thick, made from the same wood as the rest of the kitchen and available for all five widths from 109 to 301 cm. It feels warm to the touch and suits a country-style or rustic garden.

Good to know: wood is a natural product. Outdoors, Douglas fir turns grey, moves a little and should be protected from grease and moisture. A nano coating helps with this. If you want to keep the light colour, you can refresh the worktop now and then. If you actually like the weathered look, simply leave it alone, and over the years you will have a worktop with a character all its own.

12 mm sintered stone in four colours

The sintered stone worktop (ceramic worktop) is 12 mm thick and available in four colours: Black Betty (deep black), Snowy White (white), Granny Grey (grey) and Gold Flames. You can choose a depth of 62 or 82 cm. The 82 cm option gives you 20 cm of extra work surface.

Stone is the practical choice: you simply wipe it clean, grease stays on the surface and the worktop is maintenance-free. The smooth surface also goes very well with a black frame or a modern garden.

Ceramic tiles as a heat zone

You can have 30 x 60 or 45 x 45 cm ceramic tiles set into the worktop as a separate zone. This is handy wherever things get hot: next to the kamado cut-out, or as a permanent spot for a hot pan or a cast-iron grate. That way you combine a wooden worktop with a zone that can take the heat, while the rest of the surface keeps the warm character of the wood.

Which should you choose, and when?

Do you cook a lot, with plenty of grease, all year round? Then sintered stone is the right choice: easy to clean and maintenance-free. Is it mainly about atmosphere and natural wood for you? Then a 3 cm Douglas fir worktop is an excellent choice. It turns grey over time and needs a little care now and then.

Configure your kitchen

Still not sure? Then a Douglas fir worktop with ceramic tiles in the hot spots is a smart middle ground. By the way, you can also order a worktop on its own. You will find all versions under Worktops sold separately.

You can see both worktops in our showroom in Almelo, just across the border near Enschede. Visits are by appointment, so we can take the time for you.

Cut-outs and built-in features in the worktop

The worktop can be more than just a flat surface. You can have a cut-out made for a kamado of up to 52 or 60 cm, a sink with a black tap, a 2- or 4-zone induction hob, a gas hob or a pop-up socket.

In the configurator, you decide for each module what goes where, from left to right. You can find out how this modular system works under modular outdoor kitchen. We then build the kitchen around it in our workshop in Almelo and deliver it fully assembled.

Which worktops does Varetti offer?

Varetti supplies two types of worktop: 3 cm Douglas fir and 12 mm sintered stone in four colours (Black Betty, Snowy White, Granny Grey and Gold Flames). You can also have 30 x 60 or 45 x 45 cm ceramic tiles set in as a heat-resistant zone, for example next to a 16- or 18-inch kamado.

What is sintered stone?

Sintered stone is a hard, dense material pressed under high pressure and at high temperature. In shops it is also called a ceramic worktop. For an outdoor kitchen, this means grease and moisture stay on the surface, cleaning is just a matter of wiping, and the worktop is maintenance-free. Our worktop is 12 mm thick and available in a depth of 62 or 82 cm.

How do you look after a Douglas fir worktop?

Looking after a Douglas fir worktop is mainly about protecting it from grease and moisture, for example with a nano coating or a wood oil. Outdoors, the wood turns grey. If you want to keep the light colour, you can refresh the worktop now and then. If you let it weather, there is zero effort involved and the worktop takes on a grey, weathered character of its own.

Which colours does sintered stone come in?

At Varetti, the sintered stone worktop comes in four colours: Black Betty (deep black), Snowy White (white), Granny Grey (grey) and Gold Flames. Black continues a black frame into the worktop. White creates a contrast with it. All four colours are 12 mm thick and available in a depth of 62 or 82 cm.

How deep is an outdoor kitchen worktop?

The worktop follows the depth of the kitchen: 62 cm as standard. If you choose a sintered stone worktop, it can also be 82 cm deep, and you will notice those extra 20 cm especially when preparing larger dishes. The width follows the kitchen, from 109 to 301 cm in five steps.
